New Life, Organised.

Whether it’s a desk, a kitchen or a full studio, the principle remains the same. For our New Life campaign, we invited three creatives to share the inspiration that shapes their process, and the role MUJI plays in their spaces.

Yoko Ozawa

Ceramic Artist (@yoko_ozawa)

Yoko is a ceramic artist where her pieces are inspired by nature. A key idea in her work is yohaku — leaving space empty on purpose. It’s the belief that empty space has value, and that what is left out matters just as much as what is included. This idea closely connects with MUJI’s design philosophy and the work of our creative director, Kenya Hara, who similarly places intentional blank space at the centre of his work.

She remembers visiting MUJI’s first store in Aoyama as a child.
I grew up with MUJI and I’ve respected the brand's creative director Kenya Hara for a long time. I was also in Melbourne when MUJI’s first store in Australia opened. Shortly after the store opening, I went to a talk at RMIT where I saw Kenya Hara speak.

I’m a big fan of his book ‘White’ where he speaks of the concept of emptiness and philosophical concepts that are within my own work too. For a long time, that book was like my bible.

Joshua Dowdle

Music Producer & Chef (@joshua.dowdle)

Josh and his sister Amy have been making music together as Lastlings for 10 years. Their first track, Verona, was released a decade ago, kicking off their journey as a duo. For Josh, it’s all about keeping his craft sharp and sharing the things he loves with the people around him.
MUJI's my go-to for reliable kitchen utensils and home organising products because I love the clean design and thought that goes into each product.

Hannah Maskell

Artist (@hannah_maskell_)

Hannah is a practising artist, a mum, and a full-time art assistant at a local school. Despite her busy schedule, she always finds little ways to return to her studio and her practice. She welcomed us in, sharing her space and offering a glimpse of the projects she’s bringing to life right now.
Lately in my studio practice, household and beyond, I have been trying to embody being calmly active, and actively calm. To find the order but keep the joy amongst the chaos of daily life. I think MUJI gets it.
